BUT WHY “A Tourist Side Trip To Hanging Rock Park”?
…A Small Story To Be Told For => Early This Day (May 20) :
…..This day’s early morning task for Henry Gurr, was to go to Adel IA, Courthouse to pick up Xerox Copies, ordered two days earlier. Arriving early only to find there was ~1.5 hour wait for the Land Records Office to open, Henry went South, across the street, to the Only Visible Restaurant.
….The Friendly Waitress, knowing everybody in town, instantly realizes Henry is a stranger, and asked where Henry from & why here?
….The Sarah Vinke Field Research & ZMM Book Saga, failed to spark interest … so Waitress interrupts with exciting idea of her own =>
…. ”Every person, just MUST-SEE, this Glacial River, not far West!! … It was just so amazing to be there!!!
“. ….In true Researcher Fashion, the details and directions, are recorded in 3-Ring Binder, on Page Titled => “Do Next”

….In the gathering darkness, Henry hears a rustle in bushes ahead, and a Doe dart from view: … Looking carefully ahead … coming toward him, along the grassy edge of the Nature Path
… A view Henry has never seen before or even ever hoped to see!!!
…. Walking cautiously forward …. (camera still set for “No Flash”) … Henry’s Mind Automatic Thinking => “Keep Fawn in Viewfinder” … “Will the Fawn be scared by Camera ‘KerKlkk’? ”
… As you can see, the Fawn keeps walking toward Henry’s Camera!
… But the Camera Display, instantly shows need for flash, as you see in The Next Two Photos,

For /\ Above /\ Photo, Henry continues walking cautiously forward,
…. With the camera set for “Flash” … Henry’s Mind Still Automatic Thinking => “Keep Fawn in Viewfinder” … “Will the Fawn be scared by Camera ‘KerKlkk’ AND Flash?”
…. As you see the Fawn, has now turned, and is walking away … Perhaps frightened by Previous Photo’s Camera ‘KerKlkk’?
For Next Photo, Henry continues walking cautiously forward, to get REAL CLOSE …But NOT TOUCH, despite thinking about “Giving Fawn a Pat”…. Idea instantly squelched, b’c not want retained Henry Smell repulse Mommy away.

8:40 pm Friday May 20, Just 4.5 Minutes Along The Nature Path, The Fawn Has Stopped Moring Away, and Because of Previous Camera Flash, Fawn Is Looking Back At Henry Gurr: Nature Path, Hanging Rock Park, Redfield IA, 50233
For /\ Above /\ Photo, Henry continues walking cautiously forward, , to get REAL CLOSE
…But NOT TOUCH, despite thinking about “Reaching Down, & Giving Fawn a Pat! And feeling his fur!!” ….
…… Idea instantly squelched, b/c not want Human Smell, repulse Mommy away.
…. With the camera set for “Flash” … Henry’s Mind NOW Automatic Thinking =>
“Better quit, and get out of here, so Mommy can return to New Born.”
….Henry starts walking back along the Nature Path, towards Prius In Parking Lot, and
.. Automatically looks back for a Last Look.
… THE CRITTER’S FOLLOWING!! 10 FEET BEHIND!! Henry runs as fast as he can till out of breath!! Glancing back … STILL 10 FEET RIGHT BEHIND
….Run FASTER & HARDER, till AGAIN really out of breath … Glancing back again
. Henry thinks to self => … Critter out or sight, beyond curve in Nature Path. WHEW,!! I said I needed the Exercise!! OK .. Getting late. Time to find Prius, and drive back to my Camp Site, for the night.
As Henry is driving the curvy road up, and out of The Park, he thinks to self => … I should drive back, and check to see if Fawn found Mommy? BUT … No Way … Being anywhere along the Path, would just make it worse. .
AND Over The Last 4 Years, Every Time Henry Thinks Again, About Fawn & Mommy, He All Over Again Is Thinking =>
…. I should have driven back, and checked to see if Fawn & Mommy were OK!
… BUT AGAIN, ALWAYS THE SAME CONCLUSION => … NO WAY … Being anywhere along the Path, would have just make it worse. .
A Reassuring & Hopeful Final Thought =>
….The Nature Path, is in a Public Park, and steady flow of Human presence, so the added effect of Henry, even Fawn following for several hundred feet, should not have had a serious impact on the Doe & her progress to find her New Borne. At least we can hope so. .

8:46 pm Friday May 20, A Sunset View Through The Town’s Trees, Just 5 After Leaving Hanging Rock Park, Redfield IA, 50233
….Seeing this above Sunset Scene, Henry remembered his standard (ZMM Route Research Trip Photo Practice & Habit), took one more snap, as he drove through the town.
EXPLANATION => ?? WHY DID IT HAPPEN ?? =>
……… GLANCING BACK … STILL 10 FEET RIGHT BEHIND !! ??
Despite The Fact That Fawn Had Never Seen Henry Gurr,
….WHY Did Critter Follow, Even As Fast As Henry Could Run … For Several Hundred Feet? =>
IT’S A “BUILT-IN” SURVIVAL INSTINCT. >> Read sentence with “innate tendency to follow” below.
In Psychology And Ethology, Imprinting Is Any Kind Of Phase-Sensitive Learning (Learning Occurring At A Particular Age Or A Particular Life Stage) That Is Rapid And Apparently Independent Of The Consequences Of Behaviour.
….The term “imprinting” refers to the rapid acquisition by young animals of the primary social bond to their parents during a limited period very early in life. This imprinting phenomenon can be most clearly seen in precocial bird species [which is named for those species>], whose young are hatched at a relatively advanced stage of development and are able to move about independently rather soon after hatching. Such species include ducks and other waterfowl, as well as chickens and turkeys. Imprinting also appears to exist in some precocial mammal species, such as the guinea pig (Hess 1959a; Shipley 1963). In all of these cases the attachment of the young to the mother is evident when he follows her about. As Morgan (1896) remarked, there is evidently an innate tendency to follow but there is no requirement that the object to be followed be the biological mother. After the infantile following behavior has been outgrown, the attachment continues to exist and forms the basis of later social preferences (Lorenz 1935).
….It also appears that the primary socialization processes in other social animals contain features highly similar to those of imprinting….

.. 3) The Grant Wood Rest Area, On Northbound Interstate 380 South Of Cedar Rapids => Mr Wood, a Cedar Rapids IA, painter & visual artist, was best known for his painting “American Gothic.” It depicts a dour-expressioned, bespectacled man in overalls holding a pitchfork and a stern-looking woman in front of a house with an arched Gothic window above them. Widely parodied, it’s one of the world’s most recognized paintings. . The “American Gothic” Theme, is echoed in the stained glass gothic windows outside the rest area building, and echoed in images of the painting’s “bespectacled man” and a
‘stern-looking woman”, to provide a visual clue to distinguish the men’s and women’s restroom. This is seen in Link Below =>

…. Just As For YOU, In The View /\ Above /\, THE REAL-LIFE-VISITOR’S Attention, At This Rest Area, IMMEDIATELY IS GRABBED BY This Giant Writing Instrument, AS SYMBOL!
AND ESPECIALLY NOTE =>Scribed ON The Pen => “The Beautiful Land !!” .
…AND just in case the visitor hasn't yet already got the point, A Bronze Plaque in the lobby is titled “It Has Iowa Written All Over It."
Or Course The “Theme of This Rest Area, Is IOWA, And It’s Outstanding Writer/Authors, And Iowa’s Contribution The Art Of Writing: =>
…. BUT / AND => This “Theme” and the /\ Above /\ Pictured Giant Writing Instrument, AS SYMBOL, Point To A LARGER and VERY Important & Long History & Technology, Of Writing & The Instruments Used For “Writing”!!
….The earliest “writing” was done with rock or flint scraping / cutting on wood, or bone, or stone walls. These were mostly pictures and not symbolic as we currently understand. … Wikipedia says “Emerging in Sumer [Mesopotamia = Fertile Crescent pre Babylon], in the late fourth millennium BC (the Uruk IV period) to convey the Sumerian language (which was a language isolate), cuneiform writing began as a system of pictograms, stemming from an earlier system of shaped tokens used for accounting. In the third millennium, the pictorial representations became simplified and more abstract as the number of characters in use decreased (Hittite cuneiform).
….The system consists of a combination of logophonetic, consonantal alphabetic, and syllabic signs.” This, in other-words, became Babylonian Cuneiform, where “ It is distinguished by its wedge-shaped marks on clay tablets, made by means of a blunt reed for a stylus.” [In the absence of wood or plentiful bone, and before invention of papyrus, clay was plentiful and convenient.]
….Although millions of sun baked clay tablets are perfectly preserved, they are hard to carry around and get broken. Eventually papyrus, parchment, and velum became standard, + written-on with ink filled reed pens up to ~600 AD, when bird feather quill ink pens were ..”primary in the western world from the 6th to the 19th century. Quills went into decline after the invention of the metal pen [using recently developed strong flexible steel], mass production beginning in Great Britain as early as 1822 …”

…Just In Case The Visitor Hasn't Already Got The Point,
……A Bronze Plaque In The Lobby, Discusses How The Nearby University of Iowa’s ”Writing Program”, IS => "A Motel For Contemporary Writing Programs ", Saying =>
… “IT HAS IOWA WRITTEN ALL OVER IT."
… "When you travel across the state of Iowa, what do you see, row upon row of crops of corn and soybeans? But there is something else that crows from this fertile land, "mightier than the sword" and "more powerful than the plowshare".. The strong connection our agricultural heritage and our educational system is a tradition that endures in Iowa and is expressed in many forms. Iowa is at the center of writing in America."
…. AND For Henry Gurr, This Translates to => "Iowa Is a State of Mind !!",
…. AND For Henry Gurr => The /\ Above /\ Bronze Plaque Title & Passages, Apply Even More Forcefully To Sarah Winnifred Jennings Vinke.
…As Was Said In An Earlier Photo This Album =>
“We must also remember other influences [on Sarah], due to where and when she grew up: Iowa was then a relatively new pioneering agricultural state founded in 1846, with antislavery abolitionist forces from the start, and thus, the state had a Special State Of Mind. “
….A FIRST Technical Side-Point Re => The PREVIOUS Photo Showing => A Close-Up Of The Giant “Pen Nib” Sculpture.
….This Really Wonderful Sculpture, has a Minor Mis-Representation => The Cylindrical Place on the Pen, where, in real use a person would finger grip, is sculpted about the equal length as the Steen Nib. In Real-Life Steel Tipped Ink Pens, this Cylindrical Part would be at least 10 times longer than the Steel Tip. In other-words, about same length as Current-Day 6 Inch Long, Ball-Point Pens,
….A SECOND Technical (Engineering Science) Side-Point Re => The PREVIOUS Photo Showing => A Close-Up Of The Giant “Pen Nib” Sculpture.
….This Really Wonderful Sculpture, does correctly represent an important feature of all ink pens, whether reed, quill, or steel => From where the pen touches paper, there is a Dark Line running up to a Dark Dot. …. In a real steel nib, the Dark Dot represents where the ink starts to flow down a cut (a slit), represent by the Dark Line. This cut (a slit), in a real ink pen, being narrow, regulates the ink flow to the paper at “just the right speed”
….Also correctly represented in the Sculpture, of the Steel Nib, is its somewhat Curved Cupped Shaped => This “Cup”, helps hold steady a drop of ink, where the ink, can flow into the Dark Dot, and thus then flow evenly regulated, down the cut (a slit), represent by the Dark Line.
