Part III: The Illustrated "Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" Chapters 16 thru 26.

Chris And The ZMM Narrator Arrive At The Brownlee Campground After Dark, Which This /\Above/\ July 2024 Photo, Taken At The Brownlee Campground. Partly Simulates, Their After Dark.

The ZMM Narrator Says =>
….[.“ At a town called Cambridge we have supper and when we are finished, it’s dark out. We follow the headlight beam down a secondary road toward Oregon“ ] “ to a little sign saying "BROWNLEE CAMPGROUND," which appears to be in a draw of the mountains. In the dark it’s hard to tell what sort of country we’re in. We follow a dirt road under trees and past underbrush to some camper’s pull-ins. No one else seems to be here. When I shut the motor off and we unpack I can hear a small stream nearby. Except for that and the chirping of some little bird there’s no sound.

Brownlee Campground, ~18 miles Northwest of Cambridge, ID.

PART I: GIVING ATTENTION TO “MASTER MOTIFS” IN ZMM =>
….A Continuation Of
Motif Ideas From The Previous ZMM Part 2 Photo Captions, Since These Ideas Also Apply To The Above =>” CHIRPING OF SOME LITTLE BIRD … THERE’S NO SOUND.”
..****************..
FATHER & SON RELATIONSHIP:
….In the above passage, The ZMM Narrator says, “I can hear a small stream nearby. Except for that and the chirping of some little bird there’s no sound.
…A) Here the perceptive ZMM Reader should REMEMBER the Previous Album Photo Caption (At DeWeese Home, Blue Link Above) => And instantly pop to attention when reading at => “the chirping of some little bird there’s no sound...
AND
…B) Apply this “REMEMBER”, when reading the Narrator’s Seeming Useless, Out of Place Seeming Pointless Phrase, such as, “ chirping of some little bird … there’s no sound.
…. WE MUST KEEP IN MIND => In ZMM, There Are NO Useless, Wasted Words!
… In This Case (& Others Similar), The Reader Should “Pause And Think Beyond The “Ordinary”.Yes AHA => “MASTER MOTIF”
… And then realize this passage, is like OTHER ZMM Phrases such as => “In the distance a single bird cries plaintively.”
…. ….In Other Words => OK! YES!! This Fits The MASTER MOTIF Situation!!!
…..And, at such occurrences, we should immediately think of “MASTER MOTIF IDEAS”, as explained in => “The Guidebook To ZMM.
….THEN, as discussed in Previous Album Photo Captions, we are supposed to wonder what major “new arrival” ” is being thusly pre-announced: … What’s coming? …What is being foretold?
….As is discussed the NEXT 2 Photos, here is a place in ZMM where Chris is trying to ”reach out” to his Dad. But The Narrator only replies with ~”Non-Answers”, and after Chris is asleep, tells us he knows he is not communicating with Chris!!
..****************..
….As explained (Blue Link Above), these “MASTER MOTIF” ZMM Phrases, since they are repeated with emphasis, are called “‘Master Motifs’’ by “The Guidebook To Zen And The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”. (Continued Next Photo)

In /\ Above /\ Photo, Please Try To Imagine ”A Picnic Table“, Similar to The ZMM Narrator’s =>
….” …I spread out the sleeping bags, and put his on top of the picnic table. The novelty of this appeals to him. This night there’ll be no trouble sleeping. Soon I hear deep breathing that tells me he’s already asleep.
