… In an email, Matthew Hohenstreet, who has owned the Newer Rebuilt Lochsa Lodge now for 5 years, says =>
“The /\above/\ photo shows the Front Door (North Facing). This old lodge building did have the café, and served food & beverages. The old lodge building also had overnight accommodations in the loft/attic area. This is the original old lodge that burned down.
NOTE1: The original Lochsa Lodge, being “North Facing”, means it is likely oriented toward the edge of a parking lot, which the NEXT Photo shows 3 parked cars there.
NOTE2: The Newer Rebuilt Lochsa Lodge, also is North Facing”, and is likely built approximately the same place as the Original Lodge Building (that burned down), and thus is also located at the edge of the same parking lot,V

,,,,By 1929, when Andrew Erickson built the original Lochsa Lodge, this area was renowned for its wildness and drew sportsmen who traveled the trail from Missoula, Montana, or the Lolo Motorway from Kooskia, Idaho. Lochsa Lodge got a little more accessible in 1963, when highway 12 opened a route from Kooskia, Idaho to nearby Lolo, Montana.
….Generations of travelers, hunters, and thrill seekers have stopped a night or two at the lodge. When a chimney fire took down the original building in 2001, there was no question that the lodge would rise again — which it did in May 2002, using the same quality, sturdy craftsmanship that our original guests would have recognized.
…NOTE: The historic Lochsa Lodge burned to the ground Wednesday Mar 1, 2001, despite efforts to save the rustic log structure by lodge employees, guests and personnel from the nearby U.S. Forest Service and state highway department stations. You can see how close fire help was from the Powell Ranger Station. *************************
