…The Dewey Monument is a memorial statue by Robert Ingersoll Aitken in San Francisco, California, located at the center of Union Square. Union Square is bounded by Geary, Powell, Post and Stockton Streets. The monument is dedicated to Admiral George Dewey and commemorates his victory in the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War. Work on the monument began in 1901 and it was dedicated in 1903.

…This splendid, refined, graceful, beautiful, even feminine, statue representation of “Victory”, is of course =>To solidly imply the same wonderful qualities ALSO apply to Admiral George Dewey’s war actions & win. And, of course, many people, continue to see it this way!!
…However, Henry Gurr’s son David, reminded of the Philippine Islands & Battle of Manila Bay, immediately thinks of the absolutely brutal treatment of the people of the Philippines, which started with this Dewey battle, and unfortunately has continued for many years.
…Even to this day, the Philippines, remain, to their considerable disbenefit, under the crushing domination of the USA.
…. And David thinks that => All this, should be seen as a part of the larger militaristic force of world USA imperialism & domination. It’s called Manifest Destiny, as if it is the God-given right, even privileged duty, to do world domination & conquest!
… And David also thinks that => This brutal treatment (near genocidal), of persons of color, has been and continues to be actively pursued, worldwide especially in Central & South America, by the racists oriented whites of USA.
