A NOTE RE THE /\ ABOVE /\ PHOTO:
…The gap between the Closer High Forested Mountain at left & and Lower Forested Small Mountain at Center, is where the Switchbacks of the road come up to a slight hill, and then arrive at the /\ Above /\ Camera Vantage Point. => To see this in a Satellite View, click the Blue Link Below, and study Twisty Road North of the Red Pinpoint.

SOUTH FORK BIG (REDWOOD TREES) RIVER: CONTINUED EXPLANATION.
….On This “Comptche Ukiah Road” Backcountry Road, As You Travel East Towards The ZMM Route Town Of Ukiah, CA … And After Comptche, CA … You Will Come Into The Valley Of The South Fork Big River (Elevation ~610 ft):

…This South Fork Big River was previously crossed over on the Pacific Coast Highway Rt-1, South of Mendocino, ……And The “Comptche Ukiah Road” continues in the valley of the South Fork Big River, until just after Orr Springs, CA (Elevation~880 ft). Here the road leaves the valley, and does a “Many Zig Zag-Switch Back Climb” (+346 ft), To A Ridge Top (Elevation ~2,209 ft), where the /\ Above /\ Photo came into view!
…. RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT “NEW TAB” => After Satellite Map View Comes Up, You Will See What Is Most Likely The ZMM Route, Which Is Along => Orr Springs Road. You Will See This Road’s => Twists & Sharp Turns, Among Hills of Dry Brown Grass, Spotted With Clumps Of Dark Green Trees. AFTER This Satellite View comes up => ClickOn The Plus&Minus To Zoom. You can “Click&Drag” The Map In Any Direction, To See More Off Your Screen Edges.

.In This Satellite View, The Red Pinpoint Marks Henry Gurr’s /\ Above /\ Photo at WayPt 471. …NOW … You will find it particularly interesting to ClickDrag the Satellite View, to follow the Orr Springs Road, at first North, and then West until you see “Orr Hot Springs Resort”. In doing this “follow the road” => You will appreciate the “Many Zig Zag-Switch-Back Climb”, and immediately see why => Both the “Comptche-Ukiah Road” and “Orr Hot Springs Road” come up high, as “Favorite Scenic By-Ways” in Google Searches!!

HOWEVER, Please Be Aware That This Road, Has Lesser Quality Of Construction Than Normal State Highways.
…For example: Some places the pavement edge may have an 8 inch drop off, to the roadside dirt. I found this out the hard-way, by tuning off the pavement to a wider place to rest & write-out my ZMM Route Research Notes. Suddenly the right tires dropped enough, so the frame of my car was grinding grunch to a stop. AND my tires off the dirt so much the wheels spun & smoke, when I tried to drive forward! :-((
CA.

…. A SECOND NOTE RE THE /\ ABOVE /\ PHOTO:
….The distant low areas. are filled with chilled, early morning ground fog, which looks like water but is not!
….Please study the strip of “Pink Sky Glow”, which most often has a strip of “Blue Glow” below it. This Pink is called “The Belt of Venus”, and happens when the atmosphere is relatively clear just before sunrise. The Strip of “Blue Glow” below is due to the earth’s shadow, and gets narrower, as the sun comes closer to sunrise. It will take you some thinking to realize why this happens.

…You will see “The Belt of Venus” ALSO just after sunset, where the strip of “Blue Glow”, gets wider as the sun sets lower, until darkness.
…Also, you will see this “Belt of Venus” to varying degrees in other photos in this Album; For example, the Next & THIRD Next Photos.

The Next Eight Photos Show The Russian River Valley Wine Country: “A Valley That Becomes More Exquisite As We Descend.

…[ “we ride on and on, down through Ukiah, ]
…“and Hopland, and …” ” (Cont Next)

Five miles North of Hopland, CA. In the Ukiah Valley (Also called Yokayo Valley), we are now following the ZMM Route in the Northern California Valley of the Russian River, which flows South downward trending between two mountain ranges, the Western one of which is seen in /\ Above /\ Photo. So yes, the Narrator is correct, when next says => “down through Ukiah, and Hopland, and Cloverdale …
…This river, which originates from the mountains North of Ukiah, flows through Mendocino Lake. Then it flows down a low wide valley formed between two mountain ranges, for some 50 miles Southeast through Fulton, CA. Here it turns abruptly West, cuting through the western mountain range to the Pacific Ocean.
Since There Is Nothing “Russian” About This Valley, Why Is This The “Russian” River?
Wikipedia says => “The Russian River takes its current name from Russian Ivan Kuskov of the Russian-American Company, who explored the river in the early 19th-century and established the Fort Ross colony 10 mi (16 km) northwest of its mouth.”
Excerpt from Wikipedia. For Entire Article Click Here. In addition to much good discussion of the history and geology of this river basin, this article shows the Russian River in a Relief Map of California, and 5 good photos

In The 4th Next Photo, The Narrator Says “… And Hopland, And Cloverdale, Down Into The Wine Country.”. ,.
…As you view these photos of “wine country”, please remember a statement the Narrator made while we were back in the last high mountains of Oregon just prior to Medford, OR. On page 317, the Narrator is speaking of what he is then seeing, but also he is speaking in anticipation, of this area of California.
…Recall that he said => “The road drops steeply into a valley that becomes more exquisite as we descend. I never thought I would call a valley that -— exquisite —- but there’s something about this whole coastal country so different from any other mountainous region in America that it brings out the word. Here, [Medford] and a little farther south [Russian Valley], is where all our good wine comes from.

Keep these words in mind as you enjoy the forth coming photos of Russian River Valley Wine Country, literally going “down through Ukiah, and Hopland”, and.

Poetics, And Metaphoric Bridge Connections, In Author Robert Pirsig’s ''Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance” =>
…During the ZMM Narrator’s whole trip, he has used the poetics of his words, to expand the force and meaning of his narrative. In previous photos this has been called “Metaphoric Bridge Connection(s)”.
…In fact, there are reasons to believe, that the real existence (“Good old reality”) of certain town names (or special scenery, or weather), helped Author Robert Pirsig, to originally set-up the ordering of his chapters and corresponding topics.
…Now here, in Author Robert Pirsig’s “Wine Country”, we notice how Mr. Pirsig works-in the poetics of Town Names, along US-101 from Ukiah, CA to San Francisco, CA, such as => Hopland (Says to me “Hope-land”), Cloverdale (Says a Rich, Moist, Fertile, Full Of Clover Meadow), Petaluma (Says Luminous, Full of Light), Novato (Says New, Novel) and Santa Rosa (Says Beauty & Fragrance of Roses, plus purity of a Religious Saint.) etc.

Now, To Make The Point =>
…Contrast the above 4 town names with the less poetic town names that Mr. Pirsig did NOT used, such as => El Robo, Pieta, Preston, Geyseville, Litton, Simi, Healdsburg, Grant, Windsor, Fulton, Cotati, Haystack, etc

…To Me, The Literary Effect Of Mr Pirsig’s Town Names =>
…Hopland, Cloverdale, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, raise aspirations for light, sunshine, meadow, rich, moist, fertile, full of optimism, and much hope for the future.
…Which is clearly the mood intended in Pirsig’s final entire final chapter, and most especially his final 32 paragraphs.
…These are the paragraphs, in which these real town names, in this very area California help contribute, in just 4 town names, a delightful, but factual, closure to Mr, Pirsig’s book!!

NOTE CONT FROM 2ND PRVIOUS PHOTO:
…Now that we are suddenly aware that we are back into ~high population, we remember the ZMM Narrator’s =>.
…“ …lonely people. It’s paradoxical that where people are the most closely crowded, in the big coastal cities in the East and West, the loneliness is the greatest.
…AND we can’t help but notice the “Technology” in the /\ Above /\ Photo, leading us to remember the ZMM Narrator’s =>
…“Technology is blamed for a lot of this loneliness, since the loneliness is certainly associated with the newer technological devices—TV, jets, freeways and so on—
…But I hope it’s been made plain that the real evil isn’t the objects of technology but the tendency of technology to isolate people into lonely attitudes of objectivity. It’s the objectivity, the dualistic way of looking at things underlying technology, that produces the evil. That’s why I went to so much trouble to show how technology could be used to destroy the evil. A person who knows how to fix motorcycles—with Quality—is less likely to run short of friends than one who doesn’t. And they aren’t going to see him as some kind of object either. Quality destroys objectivity every time.
