A Photographic Tour of the HVAC Equipment Room In the Fourth Level (Basement) of the USCA Science Building.
Diesel Engine Co-Generator With Attached AC Power Generator (Red Cylinder Nearest to the Camera.). The Tan Box At Right Houses the Sorption Refrigerator Unit. This Co-Generator Diesel Engine burns natural gas to generate AC Power for our campus. It is most often used to prevent our campus the extra expense of contributing to the power companies "peak load. While the Diesel Engine is in operation, it generates a considerable amount of waste heat that is used to heat domestic hot water and or to operate the Sorption Refrigerator shown at right. This refrigerator uses heat to make cold, and works on the same principle as the household Propane/Kerosene Refrigerators made by the Servel Company.
