The three levels of windows are really Passive Solar Heat Energy Collectors. Many photos in this album show how the heat and light of these windows enters the building. Note two "air intake horns" at lower right. You will see these again in the next photo.

Many biology animals and experiments in the science building would be severely damaged if deprived of the electrical power to keep them properly warm or cool. This area of South Caroling often enough looses electrical power, ice storms etc. We thus require this automatic starting back-up electrical power generator.
