Established over 100 years ago, the Owl Cafe’s future was in jeopardy after the passing of the most recent owner–Kathy Boyd this fall. On Feb. 2 the cafe’s future was secured when the Moreno family took over the lease and day-to-day operations. Kandice Moreno, along with her husband Michael, daughter Haley, son Ricky and nephew Kalub are originally from Corpus Christie, Texas where Kandice worked in property management. They became Montana residents five years ago after visiting a friend’s ranch near Joliet and falling in love with the state and region.
