Despite the Bad Lands We Just Saw, Here Survives a Small Town. On my second trip to Miles City and Bozeman, I had more time so I decided to stop, rest and take this photo In the Center of this small town. Here on this business area on a side street off Rt 12, the town doesn't seem so abandoned and desolate as the main road thru town. It even has an active railroad. I Stop To Photograph These Horses. They Come Closer And Are Just As Curious About Me. This "Posse" Sniffs at Me Expecting a Handout. Despite their tough living conditions, these horses go on living any way, and seem both well fed and content. I took too long talking to the horses, and missed my shot when all the horses had a good photogenic group positioning. 20 Mi W of Baker, MT. ************************************ (Photo = 104-0471c ...... …While I was in Miles City MT, I met many people who generously helped me with my Miles City ZMM Research. Amorette Allison, Miles City Historic Preservation Officer, WAS very knowledgeable and generous with her help! She is the source of my information re the Olive Hotel pictured here and other Miles City hotels. See my ZMM Part II Gallery Photos (see Blue Link previous photo). for more information.
… Here is how I met Amorette. I had contacted Professor Robin Gerber, Miles Community College, through the assistance of Custer County Genealogical Association.
…When I arrived in Miles City, Robin was a great help with Miles City ZMM related historical information in the Public Library. She helped me research the 1969 Miles City Directory for the location of Bill’s Cycle Shop and the downtown Laundromat.
…However the probable location of the “cast iron bath tub” described in ZMM remained a “real stickler”.
…No problem! Robin had the answer. “She said lets go across the street, I know a person who might know.”(In this series of five Olive Hotel Lobby photos, the angle of view proceeds from left to right.)
