8:26 am Tuesday May 24, Asphalt Tile Removed, Exposing Smooth Diagonal Under-Boards, Bascom Hall, University of Wisconsin, Madison WI, 53706.
Photographed In Process => Renovation Of The Older Parts Of The Bascom Hall:
..1) In View /\ Above /\, you see construction worker & shovel, being used for removing 1950’s Era Asphalt Tile Flooring. Look close, and you can see Planer Smooth Diagonal Under-Boards (also 1950’s Era) that were added to the original building construction, to support the Asphalt Tile Flooring.
..2) The NEW flooring likely will be the Light Colored Hardwood Flooring (boards parallel to the walls), as was seen (and mentioned) the Previous Photo With Doorway To The Receptionist Office.
….In Sarah’s 1921-1923 years, the floors for both halls and rooms, most likely were rough-sawmill-cut wooden boards (oriented parallel to the hallway walls), perhaps Varnished or Wax Polished.
….A web page which discusses flooring says => “Asphalt tile arrived on the scene in the [mid] 1920s and, by the 1950s, was the most widely used floor tile on the market, fuelled by low initial cost and easy installation. These tiles were tough, durable, highly resistant to abrasion and moisture, and fire resistant, but the styles and patterns were limited.”
