Court House Lawn and General Town View.
….AND Beyond The Buildings, We Can See The ZMM Narrator’s “Dark Ominous Mass Beyond …”
….[ “ .. as a result of all these fragments, and thinking [Phaedrus], returned to the University to study philosophy. His lateral drift was ended. He was actively in pursuit of something now.
…….. A sudden cross-gust of cold air comes heavy with the smell of pines, and soon another and another, and as we approach Red Lodge I’m shivering. “ ]
“….At Red Lodge the road’s almost joined to the base of the mountain. The dark ominous mass beyond dominates even the roofs of the buildings on either side of the main street. ”
Red Lodge, MT. The ZMM Restaurant is two blocks “up hill” from the /\ Above /\ Shown Court House on same side.
EVEN MORE MOTIF EXPLANATION:
In The Following Two ZMM Phrases: Especially Note =>
….The ZMM Narrator’s Using Item B) To Suddenly EMPHASIZE Item A)
..A) “ .. His lateral drift was ended. He was actively in pursuit of something now. .. “
..B) “ ..A sudden cross-gust of cold air comes heavy … “
*********************
THEN, IN THE BELOW: ESPECIALLY NOTE =>
….The ZMM Narrator’s using “Master Motif” C) Below, to EMPHASIZE the fear-generating ‘Master Motif’ item D) next down =>
..C) “dark ominous mass .... dominates .... “ followed by
..D) Fear generating double repeat => “ “and soon another and another”
*********************
AND THEN, IN THE BELOW: ESPECIALLY NOTE => The Added Warnings Are From “The Wind” (Gust) =>
..E) “sudden cross-gust of cold air comes heavy with the smell of pines,.“
*********************
NOW PUTTING THIS ALTOGETHER, WE SEE THESE ~”WIND WARNINGS” => “SUDDEN CROSS-GUST“ ARE **FROM** THOSE “DARK OMINOUS” MASSIVE MOUNTAINS,
….So, all this combines into a bigger, ever more forceful than ordinary emphasis. We are to wonder what is going to happen in those mountains. This is Author Robert Pirsig’s ~”Special Emphasis” for you, the reader, to begin worrying & thinking deeply about !!
New Topic:
….Please Also Especially Note the Narrator's “smell of pines“.While I was in Red Lodge, I attempted to identify the “smell of pines.“-But could not identify this, until just prior to my departure from Red Lodge. … My notes for Red Lodge verbatim say: …. “open car door -- smell pine -- different from pines at home = sweet perfume -- altitude 5733.”
….. But even earlier, just before I took this /\ Above /\ Photo, I smelled a sweet pollen-ly perfume: Following the wind, I found that this came from a Huge Beautiful Mountain Laurel! Bush on the next street East.
