From My Truck Stop Camp Ground, I Can Just Barely Discern the Distant Mountains To The South.
…. “At Laurel, in sight of the mountains at last, we stop for the night. The evening breeze is cool now. It comes down off the snow. Although the sun must have disappeared behind the mountains an hour ago, there’s still good light in the sky from behind the range."
At A Truck Stop, One Exit Prior to Laurel, MT. If you look very closely in /\ Above /\ Photo, you can see the line of the darker grey-blue mountains just below the top of the larger trees in the distance.
….I must have arrived at about the same hour as the Narrator, and took this photo from my Truck Stop Campground prior to setting up my tent.
… But while at Laurel, and even after, I could not identify the ZMM Narrator’s => “cool breeze …down from the mountains ".
….This truck stop also had a coin operated laundry. An opportunity I did not miss. By this point, my travel-is now day later than scheduled to fit ZMM Narrative. Touristy Sight-Seeing & extra time for ZMM! Research, is my excuse.
….************** …
It’s Only ~80 miles from Miles City, MT, to Hysham, MT (~3 pm “ Late Lunch “), And Another ~75 Miles To Laurel, MT.
….Did Pirsig & Crew Stop Early At Laurel, MT, Because He Knew Of A Good Low Cost Hotel?
….Author Robert Pirsig, during the two years he was an English Professor at Montana State University Bozeman, must have traveled this highway several times, from his home town of Minneapolis, MN. And thus would have known the good places for overnight stop.
….Repeating discussion from previous photo =>
……Earlier this day, around noon Narrator said ." We head down the main street, find a restaurant and order steaks for lunch. “.And assuming steady road progress the Narrator & Crew would be doing“ Late Lunch “ in Hysham, MT around 3 pm. This suggests their arrival in Laurel, MT, before 5 pm.
….Except for “knowing a good place”, there are few other reasons for stopping so early, on a Summer Day, when the sun would up till 9 pm.
